We haven’t had our tour of the Labor and Delivery section of Winchester Medical Center yet, but yesterday Richard and I got to see the ER…
I woke up in the wee hours of the morning not feeling so hot. I spent the better part of the night in the bathroom – at one point, even fell asleep on the bathroom floor (not so comfy!). As the morning wore on, I continued to make frequent trips to the bathroom. I figured I’d purged everything that was in my stomach. That seemed to be the case, when I was unable to even keep my fluids down. I was crazy thirsty, but everything that went in came immediately back out.
Per doctor’s instructions, I called my OBGYN’s office. It took them an hour and a half to call me back. When they finally did, I was instructed to head to the ER for fluids.
The ER was prompt and friendly. The nurse and the tech were really nice. They hooked me up with an IV and drew some blood. They also checked on Lil Pea, who was doing just fine. She was rolling around and kicking up a storm most of the day. I was actually wishing she’d take a nap, since her kicks didn’t add any comfort to my upset tummy. My only complaint about the whole experience was that I was dying of thirst! My lips were cracking and my mouth was totally gummy. All I wanted was a little cup of water or ginger ale or something. They wouldn’t give me anything! They kept telling me they would bring me a glass, but then never did. Hahaha, I couldn’t help but think it ironic – an ER refusing water to a dehydrated woman.
Anyway, my blood work all came back normal and my blood pressure came back down (as it was a little high when we got there). We were released with a prescription for an anti-nausea drug and diet instructions for the next couple of days. Thankfully, Richard was off yesterday, so he was around to take excellent care of me. Today, he’s back at work, so I’m on my own… Not so fun with a super sore body from all that… sickness. Still feeling pretty weak today and still very thirsty. I’m taking it slow, though! I’d really rather not end up hugging the toilet again today.
