Some common phrases you might hear if you were a fly on the wall of my house…
I accidently sat on the floor and I can’t get up!
Do my shoes match; I can’t see my feet anymore.
I move at the speed of: waddle.
She does make a nice table, really.
Tomorrow we hit 37 weeks – or what I’m finding is considered full term by most. (I always thought it was 36 weeks.) At this point, they will not try to stop labor if she happens to decide she wants to join us early. I’m kind of okay with that at this point. Hahaha! While I’ve really enjoyed my pregnancy so far, I do find myself pretty uncomfortable these last several days.
This week, I started heading to the doctors twice a week. Yeah, twice. It shouldn’t have surprised me since I’ve been going biweekly when I could have been going monthly. I’m going in for Non Stress Tests (NST) on Tuesdays and then on Fridays I go back for another NST and a check of my amniotic fluid levels (which I believe they called an AFI). This will continue until delivery.
The NST was an interesting experience. I thought it would be a little more involved, as far as the information the test collected. Apparently, it’s mostly just to measure her heart rate over the course of about 20 minutes. They didn’t really tell me much about it, though I asked questions. It’s hard to ask for more information when you don’t really know what questions to ask. For example, I didn’t realize that her heart rate would accelerate and decelerate like it did. After all, so far, I’d only heard it in little bursts. So when it was all over the map, I got worried something was wrong. The nurse was quick to reassure me that this is actually what they want to see! She said they’ve had women sit there for over two hours waiting for the baby’s heart rate to act like Lil Pea’s did right away. Good news!!
Unfortunately, my blood sugars this week did get nice and erratic. I was high when I didn’t think I should be high and low when I didn’t think I should be low. For example… A plain chicken sandwich = 171. A bowl of popcorn (yes, with butter) = 95. What? That’s pretty backwards to what has been normal for me. I did mention this to Dr. K (one of my top two favorite doctors) and she didn’t seem concerned since my “high” numbers were still fairly low. I’ve been dropping into the 60’s before dinner and waking up in the 70’s. It’s just been different. So they want me to decrease my carbs a little more and increase the veggies. No problem! But they didn’t seem to be too bothered by it. I was more concerned than they were, haha.
Meanwhile, a little about how I’ve been feeling… Wow, has my body turned on me! I was feeling pretty good overall. I usually start off a little sore first thing in the morning, but after a few minutes of moving around that would go away. The last week or two, I’ve noticed that the soreness is not really going away. I’d describe the feeling as having ridden a bike for several hours longer than you should have. My feet got a little swollen over the weekend, so I’ve increased my water intake (again!). I feel like I might just float away, haha! I’ve had a few Braxton Hicks (I think) that were mildly intense enough to cause discomfort. I’m definitely feeling more pressure in my lower abdomen and lower back. All of this seems pretty normal according to my books and doctors.
Now, we wait….
I go back to the doctors on Friday for another NST and a check of my fluid levels. We’ll keep everyone posted as we get closer to bringing our little girl home!!
